Course Overview:
This course discusses the importance of correct vaccine storage and maintaining the cold chain, and teaches measures to prevent storage and handling failures. The course also discusses the correct action to take if the cold chain is broken and describes the recommended storage, handling, shipping, and transport requirements in both clinical and field settings for each vaccine in this courseware.
Course Objectives:
After completion of this learning activity, the learner will be able to:
- Explain why it is important to store vaccines properly.
- Maintain the cold chain from vaccine delivery to vaccine administration.
- Take appropriate measures to prevent vaccine storage and handling failures.
- Take the correct action when the cold chain is broken.
- Utilize resources to determine how a vaccine should be stored and handled.
- For each vaccine discussed in this courseware and present in the clinical facility, utilize the correct storage, handling, shipping, and transport methods in both clinical and field settings.
Target Audience:
The intended audience for this training is: physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, pharmacists, medical assistants, and other paraprofessionals who either give immunizations or set immunization policy for their offices, clinics, communicable disease, or infection control programs; private and public providers, including programs that prepare pediatricians, family practice specialists, residents, and medical and nursing students.
